Hardware & Building Materials Fair receives warm welcome in Singapore

China Sourcing Fair: Hardware & Building Materials staged a well-received inaugural event at the Suntec Singapore Int'l Convention & Exhibition Centre, Singapore on November 22 to 24, 2010.

Thousands of buyers, particularly those from Southeast Asia, considered the China Sourcing Fair a fitting venue for cost-efficient sourcing from China. As the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement took effect in January 2010, the Fair was a much-anticipated event for ASEAN buyers who stand to benefit from zero tariff imports of over 7,000 product categories from China. According to China Customs, China-ASEAN trade rose to US$235 billion in the first 10 months of 2010, up 42% from the same period last year.

Among those who saw cost-efficient sourcing opportunities at the Fair was PT. Sekawan Karyatama Mandiri from Indonesia. " The Fair is good and has a convenient location. I am in the business of making wooden doors and frames for the local market in Indonesia. I have not sourced from China before, but I am considering it now because of the cheaper price. The FTA will help our business, and there are no worries about trade barriers," said PT. Sekawan Karyatama Mandiri representative David Leonardi.

As a major ASEAN trading hub, Singapore makes for an ideal China Sourcing Fair venue. "Global Sources offers ASEAN as well as international buyers operating in the region a convenient platform for meeting and doing business with Greater China suppliers," said Global Sources Exhibitions President Tommy Wong.

"China has emerged as ASEAN's largest trading partner. Launching the China Sourcing Fair in strategically positioned Singapore, the world's second-largest entrepot after Hong Kong, will help suppliers from Greater China explore ASEAN markets more efficiently," Tommy added.

Edward Chew, exhibitions and conferences director of the Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau, expressed support for the event. " We are delighted to welcome the China Sourcing Fairs into our calendar of business events, and believe they add to the vibrancy of our business events landscape, reinforcing Singapore's position as a leading destination for tradeshows in the region. Singapore has built a robust calendar of business events over the years, supported by world-class facilities and excellent services. We welcome all international delegates and exhibitors and hope they will enjoy all the sights, sounds and tastes Singapore has to offer," he said.

Showcasing the latest innovations in the industry, the Hardware & Building Materials Fair displayed products including general hardware, fasteners, locks & fittings, building materials, doors, windows & fittings, floor coverings, bathroom products, solar & energy saving products, lighting & electrical, machinery and industrial safety & law enforcement equipment.
