“Growing Your Green Business” Seminar Series (Module 1)
Latest Technologies for Green Energy Products: Highlights in Hong Kong

Dr. T.K. Liang, Senior Manager; Dr. Zhou Wei, Project Manager, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute

In this seminar, we will have an overview on the development of renewable energy and energy-saving technologies in Hong Kong.

The development of solar industry saw various green technologies emerging. Among them is concentrating photovoltaic (CPV). The basic idea of CPV is to save costs by focusing the sunlight onto small, high efficiency solar cells through optical devices that are cheaper than solar cells. The CPV industry is typical of an emerging industry; many companies are still in the pre-commercial phase, on the brink of growth. We will also discuss a number of internal, external, technological, and financial constraints in CPV development, and strategies for capturing this lucrative market.

Meanwhile, due to the increasing efficacy and decreasing cost of LED lighting technologies, it is very attractive to look into the development of LED outdoor lighting especially the ultrahigh power LED lighting fixtures of up to hundreds of wattages. In the second part of the seminar, we’ll take a closer look at the industry trend in this field. Comparison of LED technologies with traditional HID lighting solutions will be highlighted with a few case studies.

Color Messages & Meanings

Maryann Wong, Director of Sales & Marketing - Fashion & Home, Pantone

75% of human experience is filtered through our eyes so visual cues are integral to successfully getting a message across. Color is the single most important design element in reflecting mood and style, impacting our behavior, our environment and our well-being. Color is also an essential ingredient in captivating our interest. When making a color selection for a product or brand, its psychological message and meaning must be considered because if a company chooses the wrong color, the business could be put at risk.

Join the Pantone seminar for a behind the scenes look into this most essential design ingredient of color.

About the speakers
Having faced the China Intellectual Property (IP) and Quality Control monsters early on in his career, Mr. Mike Bellamy decided to do something about it by developing the PassageMaker "Black Box Quality Gate" system to extract the best pricing in China and protect IP without compromising quality and service. PassageMaker's 100% US owned and operated Assembly Center in S. China serves as the client's "black box" where inspection, final assembly and branding takes place behind closed doors. In this fashion, Intellectual Property is physically secured and full quality inspection is conducted before product leaves China.
