Useful Information
Hong Kong's "Octopus" stored-value card
To get around Hong Kong on public transportation, you can use a stored-value card called an "Octopus" card. It's convenient, widely used, and you won't have to find exact change when traveling. Octopus cards are not accepted in taxis, but are used on public buses, on Hong Kong's subway system the Mass Transit Rail (MTR), and on the Airport Express train you can take to and from the China Sourcing Fair and the Hong Kong Airport.
When you purchase an Octopus card, you make a refundable HK$50 (US$6.40) deposit, and pay any additional amount you want stored on the card (for example, you may want to purchase HK$200 (US$25) worth of stored value.
You can purchase Octopus cards in the Arrival Hall at the Hong Kong Airport or at any Mass Transit Rail (MTR) station. You can add additional value to the card at any location that accepts them.
