Taipei International Cycle Show (Taipei CYCLE) 2009

Taipei Cycle 2009 makes history

The 2009 Taipei Int'l Cycle Show has gathered the most number of exhibitors since its launch over two decades ago. The event, held from March 17 to 20, was considered "the largest show in Taipei Cycle history," with a total 185 companies comprising 762 local and international exhibitors at the 52,000 square-meter-capacity TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall in Taipei. Taiwanese exhibitors alone featured almost 3,000 booths. World-class manufacturers such as GIANT, Merida, Ideal, SRAM, Colnago, Shimano, Accell Group, Sigma, Dahon, Pacific and FSA, also took part in the show.

Foreign visitors jumped to 2.1% from last year, with over 4,000 additional participants. International buyers included Trek, Specialized, SRAM, DT Swiss, Cycle Europe, Shimano, Bridgestone, Panasonic, and Miyata.

The show's success was seen to have "defied global downturn" and was credited to the industry's capacity to rise to the challenge in today's troubled economy. Taiwanese bicycle suppliers reportedly enjoyed a 30% increase on exports last year as they focused on manufacturing high-quality products versus competitors. The show also highlighted competitiveness, creativity, and "diversity," which describe several small-scale manufacturers in the country. An increase in Chinese buyer turnout likewise showed that Taiwan's cycling products are showing significant progress in the market.

The Taipei International Cycle Show will be staged again on March 17 to 20, 2010.
