COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2009 inspires multi-cultural industry links

The growth of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become evident at the recently concluded COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2009 held at the Taipei World Trade Center in Taipei, Taiwan on June 2 to 6, 2009. The world's largest ICT event featured IT advancements in products from various industries including medicine, automobiles, aerospace and education.

A forum dubbed "Enabling the 3C World of Quadplay" tackled the evolution of Information Processing. The talk presented the innovation of the so-called "all-IP-network era" where fixed line, mobile, Internet and television have integrated to provide more features and services.

A new product called Android Notebook by Taiwan-based international company Acer and US public corporation Google was launched at the event. Top companies including Asus, Intel, Microsoft, MSI and Thermaltake also unveiled their own cutting-edge products.

Acer is reportedly fast becoming a world leading PC maker, joining the ranks of Dell and Hewlett-Packard. Taiwanese companies are also starting to gain recognition in the international IT industry. Taiwan's Eee PC from Asustek reportedly gained sales boost from its new PC product called netbook. Meanwhile, Taiwan's semiconductor company Media Tek produces driver chips, storage chips, designing chips for wireless communications and high-definition digital televisions under its own brand name.

The five-day show attracted more buyers and exhibitors this year despite growing fears over the recent swine flu outbreak in some parts of the world. A total of 1,712 exhibitors representing 4,498 booths participated in the event. The show also received 32,178 global buyers from 214 countries, a one-percent visitor turnout increase from last year's show. Local and international visitors from the US, Japan, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Korea and Australia, which totaled over a hundred thousand, increased by 5%.

COMPUTEX TAIPEI will return on June 1 to 5, 2010, marking its 30th anniversary.
